They Take Theology Seriously in Baghdad

On Reformation Sunday, there was apparently a big difference of opinion between those arguing for salvation by faith alone and those who argue a more sacramentalist position.

In an attempt at objectivity the ABC report fails to mention which denomination the church and its attackers belong to. Oh wait... one lot was Muslim. Thanks for failing to clear that up ABC.

Up to 24 killed in church hostage drama

The US military says up to 24 people were killed in a hostage drama at a church in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

It said in a statement that seven Iraqi security forces were killed and between five and seven insurgents.

An Iraqi interior ministry official says gunmen took around 40 worshippers hostage.

Iraqi and US forces later stormed the church and freed the captives.

"We came here to help the police and army free the hostages and we released them with the help of the Americans," a member of Iraq's anti-terrorist unit said.

An Iraqi soldier said all the gunmen had been killed.
