Reflection on Isaiah 2:1-5

Scripture
Come descendants of Jacob, let us walk in the light of the Lord.

Observation
Isaiah has a vision of the last days. The nations regard Jerusalem as the most important place on earth.

People stream into Israel to worship the Lord. They encourage one another to go to the Temple so that the Lord can teach them His ways.

United in worship of the Lord, nations no longer fight one another but rather they allow Lord to mediate their disputes. Weapons are beaten into farming equipment and nobody fights.

Application
It is interesting that the promise of v.4 “they shall hammer their swords into plough shares and their spears into pruning hooks” is on prominent display at the United Nations HQ in New York. It's typical of men that we see a promis in Scripture and apply it to ourselves without considering the conditions of the promise. We see these dreams and say, “I can do that.”

This vision of world peace is conditional. The condition is that people seek the Lord and allow Him to settle their disputes.

We cannot have world peace without divine intervention. People cannot do it! There is always a potential for conflict, and unless we submit our own desires to God's judgement then we can never know personal peace, let alone global peace.

Prayer
Lord world peace is impossible without you. Today I ask for your help to be a peace-maker in my circle of influence. May this be a day when I truly walk with you. Amen.
