Reflection on Haggai 1:15-2:9

Scripture
“The silver is mine and the gold is mine,” says the Lord of Heaven's Armies. “The future glory of this temple will be greater than its past glory,” says the Lord of Heaven's Armies. “And in this place I will bring peace. I, the Lord of Heaven's Armies have spoken.”

Observation
Zerubbabel and Jeshua start work on rebuilding the Temple. Haggai tells them to forget about the former glory of the Temple because God's Spirit is with them NOW.

The Lord is going to bring the wealth of nations to the Temple and the Lord's glory will fill it. The future glory will be even greater than the past glory because the Lord of Hosts is directing their work.

Application
We can be like these men and women returning from Exile and feeling like the job we have been called to is too big, the resources too little and the outcome not worth bothering about.

When we are doing God's work then He has the responsibility and the ability to enable us to do the task. The Lord of Heaven's Armies is with us! He can shake the nations and bring the money and people we need. If His Spirit is in it then the glory of God outshines the past glories despite appearances.

What has God called you to do? Don't be discouraged. He will give you all that you need to get the job done.

Prayer
Lord, the gold and silver, the glory and the Spirit are yours. Help me to trust you as I seek to do the work you have commissioned me for. Amen.
