Reflection on Luke 20:27-38

Scripture
“They are children of God and children of the resurrection.”

Observation
The Sadducees did not believe in the resurrection of the dead nor in eternal life. So a group of them came to Jesus with a “Gotcha” question about remarriage.

Jesus pointed out to them that eternity and this life are very different. Marriage is for this life and doesn't continue into the next life.

Application
Because of our limited perspective, it is hard for us to imagine what life in the resurrection will be like. Often we fall into the trap of thinking either it will be just like this life but better or else that it will be inferior to this life because we won't be able to do anything interesting or exciting.

We are destined for eternal joy in the presence of God. It has to be different to this life but also so much better. It is what you were created for!

We were not meant to live in a world of sin, death and decay. Sin caused all that.

At the end of the age Jesus will redeem the whole of creation and everything will be good- as it was in the beginning.

I can hardly wait!

Prayer
Thank you Lord for the knowledge that you have a plan for this universe and for me. The whole of creation will be renewed and eternity will be so much better. Help me to live each day with the end in view. Amen.
