I tried to watch a video in Opera and it didn't work. I tried another with the same result. In fact what came up was a message that said "An error occurred. Please try later." Assuming the problem was at You Tube, I left it for another day and discovered that the error was still occurring. So I tried a different video site and then Firefox. No videos!
I did a little digging and discovered that Ubuntu now sets gnash, an open source flash player, as the default in firefox. And since my Opera configuration is set up to use firefox plugins (among others) it was also trying to use gnash. So I deselected the firefox plugins on Opera and found that it was once again running perfectly. Having confirmed that gnash is indeed the problem, I used synaptic to remove it and now everything is happily using the proprietary Adobe Flash plugin.
While I like the idea of open source software, if it doesn't work it isn't any use... and on this occasion gnash did not work.
looks like you have a good thing to share Keith ...
