Reflection on 2 Thessalonians 2:1-5,13-17

Scripture
Don't be so easily shaken or alarmed by those who say that the day of the Lord has already begun. Don't believe them even if they claim to have had a spiritual vision, a revelation or a letter supposedly from us.

Observation
Paul wants to ensure that his readers are sure in their understanding of the end-times. He says that the last day cannot have come yet because the man of lawlessness has not been revealed. The return of Jesus will not be a secret event because there are many significant things that must take place.

So Paul encourages them to stand firm in their faith and not be swayed by false teachers.

Application
The study g the end-times, the last days, the return of Jesus provides a breeding ground for endless speculation.

People may claim to have special revelations but these must always be subject to the scriptures.

We are given signs that no doubt will be confirmed at the time. Until then we can only surmise at some of the events that must take place.

Our primary responsibility in the meantime is to live lives of purity and obedience to our Lord, shining our lights in the present dark age.

Prayer
Lord Jesus I know that one day you will return to take possession of your kingdom. In the meantime I will look forward to your coming and I will serve you with my whole life. Amen.
