Reflection on Romans 10:8-13

Scripture
If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead you will be saved.

Observation
The gospel is very simple- confess Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart in the resurrection, and you will be saved. It seems to me that many professing christians, including clergy, who do not believe in the reality of the resurrection will not be saved according to this.

The same process is open to everyone whether Jew or Gentile. There is no exclusion or preferential treatment.

Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved- what an awesome promise. Salvation for all who call on the Lord.

Application
One of the big failings in the church is the emphasis on right belief alone. Paul says that in order to be saved we must both believe in the resurrection and also pledge allegiance to Jesus.

To say “Jesus is Lord” is to declare that the government is not Lord, that my fmaily is not Lord, that my boss is not Lord, and most importantly, I am not Lord.

To say “Jesus is Lord” is to place my entire life at His disposal, tobe used for His serice.

Following Jesus is not a hobby that we fit into our spare time. “Jesus is Lord” means that He consumes all we do, He becomes the focus of work, free time, family, spending priorities, political views....

Prayer
Help me Lord to declare that Jesus is Lord over every part of my life. Convict me, Holy Spirit, of those parts of my life that I retain control of and help me to surrender all of my life to you. Amen.
