Reflection on Deuteronomy 26:1-11

Scripture
Afterwards you may go and celebrate because of all the good things the Lord your God has given to you and your household.

Observation
At each harvest time, a thank offering was to be taken from the harvest and handed to the priests. This offering was to celebrate God's goodness to Israel in making of them a great nation.

After giving the offering they were to go and have a great celebration of God's goodness.

Application
It's amazing how often the Scriptures link celebration with giving. God wants us to not just give out of duty or reluctantly but from the heart.

If the word's posture is one of taking and holding, the Kingdom's posture is that of giving and sharing.

As we learn to be thankful for what God we have, and discover God's hand in giving us abundance, it becomes easier to give and to celebrate.

Prayer
Lord, you teach us that in giving there is great joy. Help me to continue to grow in this grace of joyful generosity. Amen

  1. Every morning I thank God for the new day and all it will contain. At night, I thank Him for the day just finished and all it contained. it helps keep things in perspective for me.
