Scripture
Holy holy holy is the Lord of Heaven's Armies!
The whole earth is full of His glory!
Observation
In the Temple, Isaiah has an awe-inspiring vision of the Lord. He sees the Lord on the throne and angels and seraphim praising Him.
One of the seraphim touches Isaiah's lips with a coal from the altar to purify him. His guilt is removed and his sins are forgiven.
The message Isaiah is to take to the nations is one of judgement. The Lord will empty the land of its people. Yet there is hope for a tiny remnant, like the stump of a tree, will remain as God's people.
Application
With God there is always hope , even in judgement.
Isaiah is overwhelmed by his knowledge of guilt when he sees the Lord, but the Lord provides a means of forgiveness. Likewise Israel will be punished for its sin, but God leaves the hope of a remnant which stays faithful to the Lord and which will provide a new beginning and ongoing life.
Sometimes we might feel overwhelmed by life. Perhaps it is sin or being hurt or abandoned, perhaps things beyond our control.
With God there is always hope.
Prayer
When life or my sin get too much, Lord, remind me to lean on you and trust you for the hope of a new day. Amen.
