Reflection on Genesis 15

Scripture
Abram believed the Lord and the Lord counted him as righteous because of his faith.

Observation
God promises to reward Abram, but Abram is distressed by his lack of offspring. “It's all very well making these promises, God, but until I have a son, the promises will die with me.”

The Lord shows Abram the stars in the sky and says that Abram will have that many descendants.

The Lord then makes a covenant with Abram to give him descendants and land.

Application
Abram was a man of deep faith in God. He believed God's words and held on to his promises.

Abram was not perfect. He often failed in spectacular ways, but he knew the Lord was with him and he tried to walk God's ways.

In the same way that Abram's faith made him righteous, our faith in Jesus makes us right with God.

Prayer
Father, thank you for the example of Abram, in many ways an ordinary person. Yet you say that his faith was counted as righteousness. Help me Father to have that same kind of trust in you. Amen.
