Reflection on Luke 2:1-20

Scripture
The Saviour- yes the Messiah, the Lord- has been born this day in Bethlehem, the city of David.

Observation
The emperor orders a census and Mary and Joseph are required to travel to Bethlehem to register. While there the baby Jesus is born.

An angel appears to shepherds to announce the news. A host of angels appear singing praise to God.

The shepherds rush to Bethlehem to the manger where the angels' story is confirmed.

They return praising God.

Application
The coming of Jesus into the world is no fairy-tale. It is located in a place and a time. This is no religious theory. Shepherds have an experience of angels and their first response is to check it out.

God has come into the world. Immanuel. God is with us.

We are no longer alone, alienated from God by our unworthiness.

Prayer
Thank you Jesus for coming into the world. Thank you for freeing me from sin. Amen.
