Reflection on Isaiah 42:1-9

Scripture
Look at my servant whom I strengthen. He is my chosen one. He pleases me. I have put my Spirit upon him He will bring justice to the nations.

Observation
The Lord's chosen servant is an agent of peace and justice. He acts with gentleness and perseveres until justice prevails throughout the earth.

It is the Lord who calls the servant to his task to be a light to the nations, setting captives free.

The Lord will not give His glory to others and will not share praise with idols. Therefore this prophecy and every genuine prophecy of the Lord will come to pass.

Application
The servant of the Lord carries a great authority with unexpected gentleness. He doesn't even raise his voice or crush the weakest reed, yet he achieves his purposes.

This clearly refers to Jesus who brought righteousness to the nations, not by violence but by himself dying.

If we are to be followers of Jesus, we need to express the same gentleness in our own public and private actions.

Jesus never fought a war, not even a just war. Yet His followers are seeking to live by His principles and in obedience to His ways all over the world.

Prayer
Lord please help me to walk in peace and gentleness, righteousness and justice in all I do. Amen.
