Environmental Mumbo-Jumbo

No water in the Murray was bad for the wildlife, and now too much water is bad for the wildlife.

A university ecologist has come up with this inane rubbish, reported in the ABC. What do ecologists, environementalists, greens and other public idiots think used to happen before people were here to "stuff it up"? Why is there a looming disaster every day in their thinking?

Here's the thing-- wildlife adapts to the environment. Especially in Australia where we have natural cycles of drought and flood, lots of water then no water.

I'm not sure which annoys me more- the professor's stupid pronouncement or the media's vapid parroting of it.

River flows 'will harm Coorong wildlife'

The current increase in River Murray flows may have harmful effects on wildlife in the Lower Lakes, says a South Australian ecologist.

Last week, the State Government announced it would release 250 gigalitres of floodwater into the lakes and Coorong.

University of Adelaide ecologist David Paton says the sudden rise in water levels means bird feeding areas will be flooded.

"Virtually no habitats for the small migratory waders are provided at present because there just is too much water in the system," he said.

"Those birds and many other birds are going to struggle to find anywhere to actually be able to forage, let alone if there's food there."

He says unnatural flows should have been provided in advance.

"To sort of prepare them so that they can respond when the flows do come, not suddenly just open the gates and say 'here wetland, have your water,'" he said.

Professor Paton says the best solution to improving the health of the Coorong is to pump hyper-saline water out of the south lagoon into the ocean.
