Sesquicentenary Service

This year marks the 150th year of the town of Narrabri, and as part of the celebrations, the churches of Narrabri got together to praise God for his blessings on our land.

...

The service was held at The Crossing Theatre, a fantastic venue and the envy of many neighbouring towns.

A band made up of members from 4 churches supplied the music.

The congregation

Richard Orr introduced the service.

Our Mayor, Robyn Faber spke briefly about the importance of faith and the churched in our history.

Pam Thomas shared a bible reading about unity.

Salvation Army Officer John Mallows

Our local, very talented choir Harmony Inc, helped lead the singing of songs.

Former Anglican minister Rev Paul Dew returned to Narrabri to preach a gospel message.

A few people have commented about the age of the people present. There were very few young people there, but this probably reflects the lack of interest that young people generally have in this style of event or in a celebration of history as such.

Despite this, it was a good night and a great time of getting together with other christians from the other churches in town.

  1. What motivated you to move to Narrabri, Keith?

  2. Well, that's great Keith. When overwhelming love is there behind every way we go and everything we do, we surely be pleased and satisfied especially when people around us do care a lot, which is much more evident in the country side rather than in the city.

  3. I came here almost 20 years ago to be the minister of the Uniting Church. We subsequently moved out of the denomination and established our own congregation. In the mid 1980's we spent 4 years living at Hay and just love living in the country. I can't imagine living anywhere else. Narrabri is a wonderful town.
