Reflection on Jeremiah 4:11-28

Scripture
A burning wind is blowing in from the desert and it's not a gentle breeze for winnowing grain.

Observation
Jeremiah depicts the anguish of the Lord. The Lord is threatening to punish the nation, leaving it desolate but not utterly ruined.

Yet the Lord is not being vindictive. He pleads for the people to turn away from their sins to avert disaster.

Jeremiah weeps over the foolishness of the people of God. He has seen the coming judgement and he has warned them, yet they refuse to see the danger ahead.

Application
God is never vengeful in the sense of relishing judgement. Yes he punishes sinners who refuse to repent, but He is reluctant, even sad.

We need to make sure that we are in a right relationship with our God, heeding his words of warning.

Prayer
God you do not wink at sin. You do not ignore the wilful rebellion of sinful men. Help me to walk in right relationship with you always. Amen.
