Through the power of the Holy Spirit who lives in us, carefully guard the precious truth that has been entrusted to you.
Observation
Paul's affection for Timothy is shown in the first few verses of this letter.
He gives Timothy a number of exhortations including to fan the flame of the Holy Spirit, to be faithful in preaching the gospel and to hold on to the truth which Paul has passed on to him.
Application
The power of true sonship is seen here. Timothy had been a spiritual son to Paul and is now able to continue the ministry Paul had started. This letter represents a passing of the baton so to speak.
We have a mighty God to serve and a wonderful gospel to proclaim. We all need to be faithful in preaching the Good News in whatever ways we can.
We must constantly fan into flames the gifts of the Spirit, not allowing them to fall into disuse.
Prayer
Father I thank you for the Holy Spirit empowering me for the task you have called me to. Help me to walk in your ways, fanning that gift into flame and guarding the precious truth of the gospel. Amen.
