Reflection on Lamentations 1:1-6

Her oppressors have become her masters
and her enemies prosper
for the Lord has punished Jerusalem for her many sins
Her children have been captured
and taken away to distant lands.

God it's too big!
It's too hard!
I look at suffering
and I think
“Who can solve this?
Who can fix it?”

Wars and rumours of war
Famine and fighting
Refugees by the boat load
Massacres and misery
Holocaust and earthquake
It's all there very night
Murder and mutilation
Rampaging rapists
So much suffering

Lord I can pray
That you will repay evil with good
And I can love
That my little light will soften a heart
And I can dream
Of a time when tears will be no more
