I've just discovered an application I've been looking for for some time. Yoono combines social networking sites such as twitter and facebook along with instant messaging services such as Yahoo, ICQ, MSN etc and puts them all into the one spot.
In the past I've used pidgin for IM and gwibber for facebook and flickr etc. But this combines "all of the above". It not only consolidates all of your friends' updates and IMs but allows you to post to update your statuses at the same time- all without ever having to go to a specific web-site.
Yoono is available either as a plug-in to firefox or as a stand alone application. I'm using the stand alone function (yoono-desktop) and it sits in a corner and puts up a notification whenever there's a new post.
Yoono is available for Linux, Mac and Windows
The only limitations that I've found so far are that it doesn't come as a .deb package, (but the bz2 package is so easy to extract and then create a launcher to), and it doesn't have the ability to minimise to an icon in the notification area, so you are stuck with an extra app that is always open.
Otherwise- it's brilliant! You can download it here
UPDATE: Apparently it does not support facebook chat directly, but they are working on it and should have that available "in a few weeks."
