So that was the plan. Reality turned out differently.
As they headed north the weather deteriorated- given the huge rains in many parts of Queensland over the last couple of days this was not surprising. They decided that the best course of action was to land in Narrabri and hope the weather improved overnight.
The weather was quite atrocious here this morning and was apparently worse further north. John needed to get home, but flying the plane back to Canberra and then catching a commercial flight up to Rockhampton was going to be quite expensive. They decided to investigate hiring a car one way to Rocky. The only problem with that was there wasn't a car available in Narrabri, so I had to drive them to Moree a bit over an hour away. So we did that, and after a quick stop to drop them off and collect a take away coffee from Macca's I got back home only a little bit late for the Ministers' Fraternal meeting.
The current state of affairs is that John and Maurie are in Rockhampton. Maurie's plane is in Bundaberg and John's plane is in Narrabri.
I once toyed with the idea of getting a pilot's licence but I decided that it was more trouble than it was worth!
Here's a photo of John and Maurie with John's plane at Narrabri this morning.
