Scripture
“You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me.”
Observation
It's a week before the Passover when Jesus is to be betrayed and crucified.
In Bethany, Mary, Martha and Lazarus put on a dinner in honour of Jesus. During the course of the dinner Mary takes some expensive perfume and anoints Jesus' feet with it.
Judas is offended by this ad says the perfume should have been sold and the money given to the poor.
Jesus looks at the heart of Mary and Judas and recognises the motives of each.
Application
Man judges by the outward appearance but God looks at the heart. Jesus welcomed the sacrificial anointing by Mary because He recognised it was motivated by love.
People might do weird things in worship. They might pour themselves out in sacrificial giving or service to the poor.
The only important thing is this- are they worshipping God or seeking the applause of men?
Prayer
Father help me to do everything from a heart of genuine worship of you. Amen.
My contstant prayer! Amem!
