Scripture
Those who walked in the darkness have seen a bright light. And it shines on everyone who lives in the land of darkest shadows.”
Observation
This passage, particularly vs. 6,7, is often with us at Christmas time. The coming of Jesus as the promised baby, the Prince of Peace is a fulfilment of Isaiah's prophecy.
“The people who walked in the darkness have seen a bright light.” At Christmas, God has turned the lights on!
What sort of darkness and light are being talked about? It is a darkness of ignorance so that we need understanding or a revelation? It is a moral darkness in which people confuse right and wrong, truth and lies? Is it a spiritual darkness in which people worship idols?
I think the answer is all of the above, and Jesus is the bright light who dispels the great darkness.
Application
Emmanuel God is with us!
In John 1, it says that the light has come into the world and the darkness cannot overcome it. Of course it never can because darkness is just the absence of light. Darkness will never over some light because darkness is nothing.
Even as a baby, Jesus for all his apparent weakness was able to cause the demons to flee. Herod attacked and evil could not put out that little light. The awesome power of the light of God.
Prayer
Father, enable me to always walk in the light of your word. Help me Lord to stand and shine your light in the darkness of this present age. Amen.
Amen.
