Epic Journey Ends-- Hard Work to Begin

I guess the title of this post reflects the reality of life. We undertake journeys, literal and metaphorical, and think that when the journey is over the task is ended. But the journey is often just the beginning of the adventure!

Tim and I just returned from an epic journey of sorts. We travelled to Newcastle on Thursday evening. On Friday we hired a truck to travel to Forster where we loaded a kitchen previously bought on EBay to return it to Newcastle. The truck was the largest size that a normal licence allows and it's by far the biggest thing I've ever driven. It was probably half a metre wider than the van and quite long plus we had to constantly be aware of the height 3.2 metres. Once you get used to the bigness of it and the different gear arrangement it was reasonably easy to drive. I drove to Forster and Tim drove back to Newcastle... a round trip of just under 400 km. (That's on top of the 800 km round trip from home to Newcastle)

The kitchen consists of 16 cupboards of different sizes, including 2 pantry cupboards, plus a heavy duty wall-oven and the proverbial kitchen sink. Loading it was hard work. Then we had to unload the truck that evening and put those bits that would fit into the van and trailer. When all that was done we were both wrecked.

This morning we took the truck back then picked up the inevitable baby gear and started the long drive home. And of course on arrival, it all had to be unloaded and put inside.

So after three days of hard work we now have a quite serviceable kitchen. All we have to do now is rip up the very old lino, pull out the kitchen cupboards and install the new ones. :p

  4. Some people go on wilderness treks to punish their bodies and have "fun"-- we transport truckloads of cupboards
