I heard on the news last night that this year has been declared the 10th hottest on record. Since the hottest on record is usually attributed to 1998, and each year we hear that "it was the nth hottest year on record" (where n increases each year) that means that the world has been constantly on a cooling trend over the last 10 years.
Another way of spinning the same data: this year was the coolest this millennium.
It's a bit hard to recognise warming when this actually feels like an unusually cool December.
