Silky oak trees are beautiful when they flower. Over the years I've tried to plant some seedlings that have sprung up from our big tree out the front. Generally they grow well in the pot, but the minute you plant them out they curl up their toes and die. There seems to be some shock effect.
This tree I left in the pot until it was quite big. Then I decided that to minimise the shock of transplanting, I would leave it in the pot. I put big splits in the bottom and sides of the pot and then planted the whole lot out in the ground. Six months later the tree is growing vigorously.
On my walk this afternoon there were two trains lined up as if for a race. It would be quite a deadly race as the tracks merge just metres in front of them.
Good idea about the tree. I've tried moving live oaks without success. They come up all around the original tree, but when I cut them loose, they die.Great train photo!
