Scripture
“I tell you he will grant justice to them quickly! But when the Son of Man returns how many will he find on earth who have faith?”
Observation
Jesus tells a story to show that we should never give up praying. A widow goes to a corrupt judge who fobs her off. But eventually her persistence pays off and he sees that she gets justice.
Jesus concludes with the message that if we keep on praying to God and do not give up then He will surely hear our prayers,
Application
It's a bit of a shock to think of God being compared to a corrupt judge or official.
But if intensive and persistent lobbying can change the heart of an indifferent or corrupt official, then surely we can be persistent in prayer.
Faith is about hanging in there, convinced of God's goodness even when our prayers are answered slowly.
We too easily give up in prayer. Who knows? Perhaps this last time, this final request, is the one that breaks through the dam wall releasing those pent up blessings.
We must never ever stop believing in God's power to change people and situations.
Prayer
Father forgive me for the times when I have stopped praying because you seemed so slow to act. Help me to trust in you and to seek you more persistently n my prayers. Amen.
