Reflection on 2 Timothy 2:8-15

Scripture
Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive His approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.

Observation
The resurrection of Christ from the dead is the heart of the Good News. This stirs up controversy and opposition, so much so that Paul is in chains for it, “but the word of God cannot be chained.”

Rather than indulging in useless arguments over words, we need to be about the business of the kingdom. If we work hard to explain the truth of the gospel we will be able to present ourselves worthy of God's approval.

Application
Christians can get themselves into all sorts of knots arguing with each other over exotic details of theology. Rather than doing this, we need to be preaching the Good News to those who are perishing. It's a simple message that Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners.

This is not to say that theology is unimportant. We need to know the God who is saving us and how he saves us.

On the other hand, with so many people ignorant of the Good News, the more urgent task is to preach the gospel in season and out.

Prayer
Lord help me to discover your calling on my life. Let me be the person who is obedient to you in every point of my life and to receive your approval. Amen.
