The iconic orange Uluru appeared to turn a shade of white this morning as a series of giant waterfalls formed during heavy rain.

Seventy millimetres has fallen at the famous tourist destination over the past day and night.

Tim Rogers, from the cultural centre at the base of the rock, says water is likely to continue flowing off the rock over coming days.

"This morning, when I was coming out to work at 9:00am (ACDT), every single waterfall on the face of Uluru from a distance was just pure white," he said.

"So it was just a mass of rapids coming down off the rock."
