Setting off on my walk again this afternoon, I encountered another black snake on the bridge. :yikes:
This one was about a metre long and heading right for me along the path. I wasn't too keen about passing a snake at a minimum distance of less than 1 metre, and I wasn't prepared to test out the theory that they cannot see stationary objects.
I turned around and chose a different route.
Two snakes on successive days in different locations. Not only do they seem to be more numerous than ever before, they seem to be bolder. I guess that's the downside of a wet spring after several dry years.
On the positive side, with so many snakes the probability of a mouse plague seems to be rather small.
