Reflection on 2 Thessalonians 2:1-12

Scripture
Dear brothers and sisters, we can't help but thank God for you because your faith is flourishing and your love for one another is growing.

Observation
In the face of great hardship and persecution the christians in Thessalonica were growing in faith.

Paul reassures them that God will judge their persecutors. He assures them of his constant prayers. Because of their faithfulness, the name of Jesus will be honoured.

Application
Through the ages, there has always been opposition to the gospel and hostility to christians. Many have been martyred, imprisoned or exiled.

We need to be praying for our brothers and sisters who are being persecuted that they will stand firm in the grace of Jesus.

We also need to be on the alert in our own nation where there are always people who are determined to oppose the works of God and to undermine the church in any way possible.

Prayer
Today, Lord, I lift up to you my brothers and sisters in places like China, Indonesia and many Muslim nations where there is real threat to them from those who hate you. Help them to stand firm for you and to grow in grace daily. Amen.
