End Times

Towards an Apostolic Eschatology

Introduction

For much of the last 50 years, the evangelical and Pentecostal movements have been dominated by a
particular view of the end times popularised by writers such as Hal Lindsey, Tim La Haye and
Larry Jenkins In this theology, the Biblical book of Revelation is interpreted in the light of
contemporary geopolitical events to construct a time line for the events of the End Times the
Rapture, Tribulation, the physical return of Jesus etc.

While political developments since the writing of “The Late Great Planet Earth” have rendered
fanciful its scenario of a Cold War showdown between Communism and the Christian West over the
Middle East, the underlying assumption remains popular that the world is heading for an apocalyptic
disaster which will usher on the End Times.

In this article, I raise some alternative understandings about the End Times and look at the issue
from the perspective of apostolic christianity.
