Youth is smarter than experience

Former Opposition Leader Malcolm Turnbull writes:

"A curious feature of climate change denial is that it seems to be found overwhelmingly in the ranks of the old. I have never known a contentious issue where one side of the debate is so old. ..We should listen to the young — their passion for action on climate change and their concern for the environment reflects the fact that they have the most future at stake."

A reasonable person might say that this would be because the old have seen a few climate cycles in their decades and have lived through a few media scare campaigns (remember Y2K anyone, or the earth is going to go into an ice age, or nuclear winter), and we are still here.

It should also be noted that farmers, particularly old farmers, who make their living from the actual environment (as opposed to activists who make their money by scaring governments), are sceptical about climate change.

But of course we should listen to 7 year olds from the inner suburbs.

  1. Because the 7 year olds from the inner suburbs are just spitting out what climate change advocats have told them. This just proves how important it is to teach our kids to think for themselves and not just swallow what people tell them.
