Scripture
Rejoice in the Lord always- again I say, rejoice!
Observation
The underlying christian default emotional setting is joy. Joy isn't the same as happiness, because happiness is dependent on what is happening- it is circumstantial and changeable. Joy is a deep confidence that God loves me and therefore all will be well.
Because we trust God, we can take all our anxieties to Him and leave them there. This peace is a gift which unbelievers cannot grasp.
As we fill our minds with godly thoughts our lives are transformed by God.
Application
At the heart of all this is the conviction that in God's grace we can reprogram our thoughts and our actions.
“Rejoice” is a command. We are told to be joyful even when our circumstances are not so good.
It's all about where we choose to focus our thoughts. Do I look at myself and my situation? Or, do I choose to look to God and His love?
Prayer
Thank you Father that even in the darkest times of my life your light keeps shining brightly. Help me to look to the light and not the darkness, to rejoice and not despair. Amen.
