Apparently we have moved

From the ABC:

The State Emergency Service says crews are now focusing their efforts on helping communities isolated by flooding in the north of New South Wales.

The main access roads to Brewarrina, Narrabri and other towns north of Bourke are still closed by floodwaters.

From memory both Brewarrina and Narrabri are east of Bourke.

Check the map

I don't know about Brewarrina but Narrabri is definitely open for business. No flooding here and all the main access roads are open.

Very strange!

Apparently it is very hard to link from my.opera to Google maps :(

  1. Ahhhh, but did they move Brewarrina and Narrabri, or was it Bourke that was moved?

  2. I don't think of that. I thought that Bourke was the fixed reference point. I'll have to go and have a look. I suppose if the Darling River flooded really badly it would have washed Bourke south, although technically we would still be north-east rather than north. In Australian colloquialisms "Back of Bourke" (meaning west or north) means a long way from civilisation, out-back, or sometimes just a long way from where I am right now.If we were north of Bourke we would be back of Bourke so that would make us very isolated.Another similar term is "Beyond the Black Stump". Nobody's sure exactly where the black stump is so it must be a long way away :D
