I promise every living creature that the earth and those living on it will never again be destroyed by flood.
Observation
At the end of the great flood, from which just a handful of people and animals are delivered, God promises not to use flooding as a universal judgement ever again.
As a sign of the promise, He places the rainbow in the clouds as a reminder to men of this great promise.
God may send other forms of judgement on the earth- and there are some terrible ones described in the Book of Revelation- but flood will never be one of these.
Application
God keeps His promises.
Just as water is intended to bring life rather than death, so is our relationship with God.
When sin enters the picture, an encounter with God, far from bringing life, turns to death.
Prasie God for the cross! Just as the rainbow is the sign of God's grace, so is the cross. On the cross, God defeated and killed sin. He turned from judgement to grace, and now we can boldly approach His throne knowing that He will accept us and not condemn us.
Prayer
You are awesome God! Blessed be your name. You take the worst of our sin and nail it to a cross, refusing to allow our wickedness to constrain you to judgement. Help me Lord to walk through today in an awareness of your great grace. Amen.
Awesome post! By the way - my daughter got the book I sent - you had talked about it in one of your posts (your Lutheran ladies thought there was a problem with the commandments) and she was thrilled with it! She called me tonight to tell me about it. Thanks for the recommendation!
