The cleverer we get the more complex basic questions seem.
When is a man a man or a woman a woman? That question was raised at the recent World Athletics Championship where the gender of a woman was questioned even though she was born a girl and presumably has the right equipment.
Now in Western Australia the question has resurfaced. By giving people the legal right to change their gender, the law now has to define what it means to be a man or a woman. Does a woman have to undergo a complete hysterectomy to become a man? What does it mean if a someone who is legally a man gives birth to a child?
Sometimes, I think society needs to think carefully before we accede to every demand from different pressure groups to be treated in particular ways in order to get what they consider to be their "rights".
