Reflection on James 3:1-12

Scripture
People can tame all kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and fish, but no one can tame the tongue.

Observation
the tongue is a very small part of our body yet it has great power.

Just as a tiny rudder directs a huge ship, so the tongue can set the course of our life and the lives of others.

No one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil. It is like a spring that produces both good water and bitter water.

Application
Reputations have been destroyed by a bad word. Lives have been taken because of false accusations and words of betrayal.

A wise person, especially christians, will bridle their tongue.

We need to ensure that our tongues are only used for edifying others and praising God.

All gossip, slander, foul language, curses and name calling must go. We can't tame our tongue, but God can. As He cleanses our heart and mind we will find our speech lifted up.

Prayer
The tongue is restless and evil. Father help me to surrender all of my words to you. Amen.
