Reflection on Psalm 4

Scripture
There are some who ask “Who will be good to us?” Let your kindness, Lord, shine brightly on us.

Observation
There are many people who have a sense of entitlement-everybody owes them something. Usually these people think the Government or the mysterious entity called “They” should always be there to bail them out of trouble, and better still, provide cash.

But here David is saying, “God is good and kind to all who trust in Him.”

You don't have to have that sense of wounded entitlement. God is the one who will look after you. He won't always give you the free ride you might think you should have, but He will lead you beside the peaceful streams and keep you safe in the Valley of the Shadow.

Application
President Kennedy famously said, “Do not ask what your country can do for you. Ask rather what you can do for your country.”

Many people want God to be there for everything they want. Prayer becomes a shopping list instead of a relationship.

We need to be asking God, “What do you want from me today Lord?”

Prayer
Here I am Lord- use me for your purposes today. Amen.
