Reflection on Luke 24:35-48

Scripture
“The scriptures say that the Messiah must suffer, then three days later he will rise from the dead. They also say that all people of every nation must be told in my name to turn too God in order to be forgiven.”

Observation
One of the themes that keep emerging in the post-Resurrection stories is that the disciples needed to have Jesus explain to them what was happening and its significance.

Three years of daily walking with Jesus in the flesh and they still didn't get it!

Over and over, it seems, both before and after His death, Jesus explained the Scriptures and how they foretold what must happen.

Application
If the disciples needed personal explanation of scripture from Jesus, then how much more do we?

It is foolish to think we can understand the mind of God apart from a relationship with God- as if God is some insect under a microscope.

Scripture must be understood in an ongoing relationship with the living God. To do otherwise is sheer folly.

Prayer
Father, let my eyes be opened as I read your word. Send your Spirit upon me so that I can apply the Scriptures to my own life, becoming a doer of the word and not just a reader of it. Amen.
