So I finally got going, and the grass was so long and thick it took me twice as long as usual- over two hours. It was quite wearing.
After lunch I got up on the roof to find out why the gutters overflowed in the rain. I found they were still full because of a blocked down pipe. I fixed that and tightened some roof screws as I went past.
After that I pottered in the veggie patch. I bought some new corn seeds- my seeds from last year just did not germinate. While digging I noticed that there is a peewee nest in the gum tree there. I saw a couple of adults and three babies- well not exactly babies as they were fluttering around the branches near the nest.
Between the peewee family calling to each other, a dozen grass parrots, galahs screeching as they flew past and even top knot pigeons, our garden is a riot of bird song. Add to that the sound of willow on leather from the cricket match across the creek and it was very pleasant indeed.
Country life- you can't beat it.
Here is the peewee nest. I had to crop the photo to about half size to make the nest more visible.
