Road safety officer caught doing 159kph
A road safety officer employed by three Riverina shire councils, in southern New South Wales, has been ordered to take leave until the end of the year, after he was recorded speeding near Temora.
Police road patrols clocked Bruce Barrett driving at 159 kilometres per hour in a 100kph zone between Temora and Junee on November 12.
Police suspended Mr Barrett's driver's licence and fined him more than $1,500 for speeding.
The general managers of Bland, Cootamundra and Temora councils met yesterday to discuss Mr Barrett's future employment as road safety officer.
The councils have not fired Mr Barrett, but are asking him to prepare a submission on how he will fulfil his contract in the six months that he has lost his licence.
