Reflection on Leviticus 19:1-18

Scripture
The Lord said to Moses, “Speak to the entire assembly of Israel and say to them, 'Be holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy.' “

Observation
The Lord's commands are given to help the land and care for the vulnerable. Holiness has as much to do with right living as it does with religious observance.

The same God who commands people to not worship idols also commands them to leave part of the harvest for the poor.

Application
As christians we a renot legally bound to the laws of the Old Covenant . But it is the same God who commands us to be holy as He is holy.

Therefore we have a duty to care for those around us, to be kind to those with disabilities, to refrain from slandering others, to be generous with our possessions.

The grace of God in forgiving us and in bringing us into the Kingdom will flow through us to others.

Prayer
Lord, what do you say to me about my daily behaviour? Show me how to be holy as you are holy. Amen.

  1. That's a struggle sometimes, especially when difficult personalities are involved.
