Reflection on 1 Corinthians 3:1-9

Scripture
It's not important who does the planting or who does the watering. What's important is that God makes the seed grow.

Observation
Paul laments the fact that the Corinthians are so immature. They should be ready for strong solid food, but instead they are still on milk.

Their jealousy, quarrels and loyalty to the celebrity preachers just shows they are led by the flesh not the Holy Spirit.

It doesn't matter who plants the seed of the gospel and who waters it but rather it is God who grows the plant.

Application
The ongoing fractures in the church would devastate Paul. It's not so much that we meet to worship in different ways. The problem is that we don't recognise that God is at work in the other groups.

What is even worse is the rise of celebrity preachers who are exalted and idolised through the media in the same way as other celebrities. God wants us to honour those who work among us and to exalt the name of Jesus not the name of any man.

Prayer
Lord forgive me for thinking I have the handle on the truth. Forgive me for looking down on other christians who worship in different ways to me. Amen.
