Cyclone Yasi

Cyclone Yasi is huge and strong and bearing down on northern Queensland. In fact, if you look at the total extent of the cloud around the system its diameter is roughly the same as the distance from Melbourne to Cairns.





To put this into international perspective:



And of course the idiots, notably Greens Senator Christine Milne (whom I am convinced suffers from some sort of psychiatric imbalance which causes her to insert the phrase "dangerous climate change" into every sentence), are blaming this on carbon dioxide. Repent you environmental sinners!

So here is another context- a graph showing that the number of severe cyclones has been quite constant over the last 40 years and not showing the kind of increase "that one would expect with a warming climate" as they like to say over and over. Not only is the number of severe cyclones quite constant over the period, the number of less severe cyclones has declined, possibly to better and more rigorous classification.
