Scripture
Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you?
Observation
Paul uses the analogy of a building to describe the Christian life.
The only foundation that can be built on is Jesus Christ, and what we build on will be tested by fire. The quality materials will survive but the rubbish will be burnt up as if by fire. In the latter case the person themselves will be saved but only just.
We need God's wisdom which the world will judge as folly. Paul brings this back to the issue of division in the church and says we are of Christ, not of Paul or Apollos or Peter.
Application
We are very careless in our attitude to eternal life. By focusing so much on salvation, we guarantee people a block of land in heaven so to speak, but rarely teach one another how to build for eternity.
Jesus talks about storing up treasure in heaven, and Paul in Ephesians talks about us being saved for good works in Christ.
The Bible isn't specific about the details of all of this. It seems to me that in serving Jesus and being sensitive to the Holy Spirit, working for the Kingdom of God in our daily life, is what builds our heavenly “wealth.”
Let's stir one another up to good works in Christ,
Prayer
Lord, there is much that confuses me about eternity. But one thing I do know Lord is that I want to serve you with all my being. Help me to do this today. Amen.
Amen!
