Reflection on Acts 2:1-21

Scripture
Everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages as the Holy Spirit gave them the ability Acts 2:4

Observation
The glorious day of Pentecost. The day of outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

All the believers were meeting together in one place in unity of heart seeking God about what they are to do next. Suddenly in a moment everything is changed. The Holy Spirit rushes in and fills them, equipping them to fulfil the Great Commission.

Application
The gift of the Holy Spirit does these things:

1. Gives individuals the ability top praise God in words not their own. In our natural ability we are unable to worship God truly, but with Holy Spirit power this is possible.

2. Empowers a community to win the world for Jesus. It was “all the believers” who gathered together and who spoke out the praise of God. Community is a powerful gift of the Holy Spirit.

3. Emboldens ministers and equips them to preach with authority. Peter was changed by the Holy Spirit and equipped with a gift of winning converts. It didn't have to be Peter, but he was the one who took the opportunity to speak.

Prayer
Spirit of the Living God fall afresh on me. Renew my love for you, refire my passion for you, energise my worship of you. Amen.
