Reflection on Luke 15:11-32

Scripture
“Your brother was dead and has come back to life. He was lost but now is found.”

Observation
A man with a big heart had sons who were both very selfish. One went off with his inheritance, blew it all and then came crawling back home. The other, full of self-righteousness and hard of heart, refused to celebrate his brother's return. He thought only of his own work and not of the father for whom he was working.

Application
We who have been christians for a while can learn to take God's grace for granted. Although we know that we are saved by grace, we still feel somewhat superior because we are saved.

This story reminds us of the immeasurable love of God who focuses on repentance rather than sin, on future fellowship rather than previous rebellion.

The elder brother refuses to understand this. He is focused on what is fair and not on the ways of love.

Prayer
Help me Father to appreciate the immensity of your love and to live in the power of your love. Amen.
