Meaning Of Easter on Public Display in Narrabri This Year

Recent surveys in both the U.S. and in the U.K. have revealed that many people (about 80% in both countries) have very little idea of the meaning of Easter. The situation is probably the same in Australia.

This year in Narrabri we are going to have two similar public projects to graphically portray the message in public places.

The first is a project which I suggested late last year and seemed to garner no interest but is now up and running in a different form from what I anticipated. Jock McLaurin has produced some line drawings of seven aspects of the crucifixion narrative, almost but not quite mirroring the Stations of the Cross which have been enlarged and painted on boards by a team of artists. Each one, when finished, will carry short scripture verses. We have organised local businesses to show these in their windows for a week before and the week after Easter.I'm also hoping that we can get some brochures out which will explain the project and where all the paintings are located.

The second project is a Stations of the Cross around the Lake. We've had 9 crosses made and will attach reproductions of artistic depictions of the events as well as scripture and brief meditations. For our Good Friday Service we will make a pilgrimage around the lake. The crosses will remain for the whole weekend, giving people an opportunity to meditate on the meaning of Easter. I'm hoping to also produce a brochure for this.

It's exciting to have these public expressions of the gospel.

  1. WOW!! That is an ambitious and worthwhile project. I wish I were there to walk around and view it. I'm sure it will help people to undertand a little more about this monumental event.

  2. I spent most of last night worrying about all that I have to do in the next two weeks, including the two projects. About 2 am I thought "This is silly," so I got up and wrote down everything I could think of, committed it to God and slept soundly for the rest of the night! I think it will work out fine and carry God's blessing.

  3. That's the way to do it!!I was awake about 2 minutes this morning when my cell phone rang. It was a wrong number and he apologized for waking me. I told him he didn't distrub me, I was just getting up. He talked and talked and talked. By the time he was finished talking, I had made the bed, was dressed and started the coffee. Then looked at the clock...... 1:37am!
