Reflection on Joshua 5:9-12

Scripture
The very next day they began to eat unleavened bread and roasted grain harvested from the land. No manna appeared on the day they first ate from the crops of the land and it was never seen again.

Observation
God's provision is an awesome thing. Some 2 million people had been supported in the desert for 40 years through the daily provision of manna. As they enter the Promised Land the need for manna ends and they are able to eat from the abundant crops already growing there.

Gilgal is the place of freedom from the curse and dishonour of slavery. The yoke is finally lifted off the Israelites and they are now a truly free people. That's not to say that the battle is over. It is just the place for a new start.

Application
To receive the blessings of God the people had to have some things in order:

* the men had been circumcised (v. 3) which speaks of being devoted to God, set apart for Him.
* they rested
* they celebrated the Passover which speaks of worship
* only then did they eat the crops of the land

Prayer
Thank you Father that when we walk with you, you provide all that we need in great abundance. Amen.
