Reflection on Psalm 19:7-14

Scripture
The Lord's instruction is right, it makes our hearts glad, His commands shines brightly and they give us life.

Observation
The teachings, instructions, commandments of the Lord are what give us life, light, wisdom, joy and holiness.

It is like the Ten Commandments. Our sinful nature baulks at anybody- even our Creator- telling us what to do. But God is our teacher and we NEED Him to tell us what to do and how to do it in order to make our lives fit together with Him.

If we want wisdom, joy and a fulfilled life then we have to follow God's ways.

Application
David cries out to God, “Don't let me do wrong on purpose Lord, or let sin have control over my life.”

I find that my problem is not a lack of knowledge of the right thing to do. Too often I just don't care. I will do what I want to do without even checking with God first. Too often I walk into sin with eyes and arms wide open. I don't fall into sin- I jump right in.

I need God to transform my heart so that I love Him more than my own pleasure and that I fear offending Him more than I fear missing something in desiring what is right.

Prayer
Father, I confess to you my terrible addiction to sin. I enjoy doing what is wrong, I revel in doing what I want to do. Please forgive me. Make my heart soft towards you and desperate to remain in fellowship with you. Amen.

  2. Thanks Lois! I'm glad they are helpful to you. They help to keep me on track with my devotions also. The reflections are mainly what God is saying to me through the Word, so it's good to know He's using them for others as well.

  3. They certainly are wonderful to read, even when it's something I already know, you often bring a different perspective to it and sometimes just bring these thoughts back to memory.
