I noticed along the way just how green it is- very unusual for the end of summer. It's been a good season. We past fields of sorghum, corn, cotton, a vineyard, olives and some cattle. This truly is a blessed land.
Some road-works provided a little confusion and amusement:

When we got home, I went for my walk. Attracted by the rare sight of a rosella in the trees (it disappeared before I could photograph it) I varied my normal route slightly which gave me a different perspective on the creek at the back of our place.

I found this beautiful bird which I later discovered is a purple swamphen. It lives right across Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia.

Further around, a great egret and a royal spoonbill let me take their photos from behind a bush:

Some boys playing at the lake wall asked me to take their photos.

Great pictures!!! We have the same kind of swamp hen, but I think it's called a mud hen here. I love the spoonbills! They are such strange looking birds. Very nice portrait shot of the boys! Certainly a happy pair!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lois!It really was a happy walk with the birds and the boys!I also have shots of a cormorant which I took on the same walk. I didn't upload them as I was waiting for a local ornithologist to identify the bird for me. I hope to get to that soon.
